autumn TERM 2025
Year 1
This term we will be moving on to our new geography unit of work, ‘What is the weather like in the UK?’, which will focus on the 4 countries of the United Kingdom, simple compass directions, weather symbols and creating their own weather forecasts. During this unit, we will also be looking at appropriate clothing for different types of weather and what activities can better suit different weathers.
Our Science unit, this term, is called ‘The Animal Kingdom’. It allows us to explore our knowledge of animals in even more detail, including classifying animal groups and looking at simple food chains. In lessons, we will also be continuing our work on the different seasons and the changes that we see to our school environment.
In PSHE, we will be starting a new unit called 'Dreams and Goals' and this will tie in nicely with setting our own New Year's resolutions. The children will be thinking about the qualities of perseverance, motivation and challenging themselves.
This term, 1P will be doing ‘Yoga Bugs’ sessions every Friday afternoon, starting on 9th January. If any parents have any experience in working with animals and would like to come in to do a talk to the children, please reach out to your child's class teacher so that we can arrange a visit into school.
After half term, we will be starting our new history unit of work, ‘How have toys changed?’, which is looking at sequencing toys on a time line, investigating artefacts from the past, identifying how teddy bears have changed and what toys might be like in the future.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful parents for their continued support.
