Welcome to Year 5 Parents Information evening September 2023

AUTUMN Term 2024

As a Year 5 team, we are thrilled with the positive start all pupils have made to the new academic year. Thank you so much parents and carers for your support in signing Home School Organisers and ensuring that your child is ready for the new year. We have been impressed to see so many signatures already showing reading at home.

In DPC our unit is called 'Space Explorers' while in science we are studying 'Earth and Space'. We will be exploring Space and Earth’s position in it and then investigating the history of space exploration and what it is like to be an astronaut. Our inspiration lesson to start this topic will be astronaut training.

In English, the legend of Robin Hood will inspire the writing of our own new adventures and later in the term our novel will be Clockwork by Philip Pullman.

During Maths lessons, we will be learning more about place value, the four operations and fractions. Keep practising your times tables as this will help with all of our topics.

On Thursdays, one class per half term will be doing Forest School with Mrs Bullock and Mrs Holtom, while the other two classes will have PE with Mr Manners and Coaches from Premier Education. Forest school will run in order 5D, 5P, 5S. Each class will have two half terms of Forest School during Year 5.

We look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at the upcoming information evening.

It’s going to be a fantastic year, we are excited to see your children shine!

Curriculum Overview

You can find more details of the Dorridge Primary Curriculum and Subject pages on the menu to the left. At the beginning of every unit of study we will be sending out a letter to parents that explains the sort of things that are being covered in the unit. Copies of these letters are available from the links below, as well as an overview for this year group.
